Around the House

So, the past few weeks have gone by so quickly and we've been busy!  It's rained just a bit -

and we've been taking care of opening the pool, cleaning up the garden, planting a few seeds and hanging out on our new patio furniture:

(Guess who likes quesadillas? Carter has actually discovered that he likes sandwiches of all types - just like his dad.)

Carter has become sort of proficient at brushing his teeth at night (he really just chews on the toothbrush), but he LOVES standing on his step stool at the sink to try to splash in the water:

Cinco de Carterfest!


There were some festivals coming to town that Brian and I really wanted to go to, and from our last experience, we were a little nervous, but the little guy did great.  He loved the sheepdog trials, oh - and the lamb sausage, at the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival...

It WAS really hot and muggy, so his favorite part was to run around in the meadow in the shade of a tree and pick some grass:

We made it home for a late, but long nap, and then Carter rallied to go to the first annual Bar-bay-q benefitting the pediatric ED at Anne Arundel Medical Center.

Guess who likes barbecue pork sandwiches, too?

The heat let up a bit, the clouds came and a breeze sprang up, so Carter had a ball dancing to the music, he threw a football with some new friends (that kid can make friends at a funeral if you give him a chance - he just walked up to this couple throwing a little football around and he actually had a game of catch with the guy - all on his own!), and he ate the bejeezus out of some barbecue and beans.

What an awesome day we had today!

Apple Picking - At Last

The heat of summer seems to have passed and it has us all thinking of joys of cooler weather.   We joined our friends Heather, Rick, and Evan for some apple picking in Elkton MD.  There was a wagon ride to the orchard, some very pleasant nursing under the apple trees and enough apples (and apple cider donuts) to make our bellies ache.  

Then it was home to make bread, and pies, and apple sauce, and apple butternut squash soup.  

Welcome Fall, we've missed you.

Pat-a-cake, pat-a-cake, baker's man...

Mimi had to work the past two days, so Carter and I had a weekend together.  We did all sorts of guy things like working in the garden and making tacos.  (Carter, by the way, likes the filling for our chicken tacos although we haven't tried the tortillas yet.)  We were so busy that we mostly forgot to take pictures, but after making our uber-manly lattice top peach pie, we did remember to record Carter's first pie making experience.

Although Carter did in fact help, notice the pie is out of his ever widening reach.  He's getting to be a grabby little guy.

Next weekend... The River!

Past few weeks...

No big changes going on over the last few weeks - hence the blog silence.  Carter got to go to his first Sheep and Wool festival where he got to see sheepdog demonstrations, smell some livestock, and nurse among thousands of his closest friends.  He especially liked the funnel cake (after I metabolized it a little for him).  The day was rounded out by an evening spent with Pontus and Saga.  We seem to be getting better about being more adventurous and getting Carter out of the house for more and more of the day.  We did, however, pay the price later that night because the little guy didn't quite get his scheduled naps for the day and had a restless overnight.

This weekend we got the rest of the garden into the ground and harvested the first of the spinach.  Carter thinks he likes spinach and picked up a handful, immediately trying to stuff it all into his mouth.   Our great friends Allison and Sarah visited on Saturday and we all went out for crabs (forgot to take pictures - poo!).  Carter does not like crabs, although he does seem to like Guinness.  As you can tell, he's getting very mouthy and trying out lots of new foods: green beans (meh), applesauce (yums), pineapple (yums), peas, turnips, sweet potato and pears are all part of his diet now.

Last night, Carter got the giggles while we were sitting down to dinner.  The video was too cute not to share.

Also, a few days ago we thought it might be fun to see what he does with a cup, so we gave him a little water to sip on:

You can't quite see in the video, but he kept bringing the cup to his cheek while looking at Brian - the classic "drinking problem"!  And then he'd get some water in his mouth, look up at me, and let it all run down his throat.  Not bad for his first try, I think.  :)
