Biting Into Summer

We've taken it down a notch after all of our trips in June and the beginning of July.   It has been HOT for the past several days.  We spent Saturday afternoon wallowing in the pool, and were happy to have our friends Doug, Nevan, and Sue come join us.  Carter often goes swimming after day care and enjoys splashing around.  He can go underwater without taking a mouthful, but he doesn't really seem like he likes it much.  We're working on the back float, but its slow going.

Carter continues to grow and change almost daily.  On Friday he had his 9 month visit to the doctor --  clean bill of health and almost 22 lbs.  (The graphs at the bottom are updated.)   He's an enthusiastic eater, everything from fish to hummus to asparagus go happily down the hatch.

He's not crawling forward yet, but he scooches himself backwards and can spin around on his belly to face any direction.  He can roll both ways, but is fairly unmotivated about it.  He much prefers to be sitting up or better yet, standing.  His favorite new thing is to stand holding on to a low table or ottoman and just hang out.

The big news?  Today we found a tooth! We could barely see it, but it made the tell-tale click against his glass at dinner tonight.  He's been a little fussier for the last few days, now we know why...

Vacation Part 2, Thomas TIme!

After the river, we drove to Fredonia to visit the Thomas Clan. As an added bonus, Carter was able to meet his (Great) Grammy TT and Aunt Lynn.

My old wooden block set was dug up and it turned out to be a big hit with Carter.  He's mostly a demolition expert these days...

There were picnics and playing in the garden.

There was play time with Grammy TT, Aunt Lynn, and Uncle Jason.

There was LOTS of eating (in the highchair used by me, Papi, and T-Pa) -- man can the little guy pack away the food.  He's a big fan of just about every veggie we've tried, and two stalks of asparagus can buy enough time for Mimi and me to eat a whole dinner.

And there was another 4 generation photo op.

The two phases of this vacation made for a pretty long road trip.  Since the car doesn't automatically put Carter to sleep anymore, we're happy to travel under cover of darkness.  Carter does pretty well in the car, and it's amazing how many miles you can cover doling out one Cheerio at a time...

Summer Vacay Part 1 (Picture heavy post!!)

Wow - so we had a successful summer vacation with Carter over the past 10 days or so.  Most of that time was spent at the River (in the Thousand Islands with Brian's family) - one of our favorite places!  It started out a bit tenuous - turns out Carter does NOT like water safety and the PFD was very unpopular:

He'll learn...
The main activities for Carter were:

Dock Time:

Chillaxin at the dock
Daddy-vator!
Gram-time
Chatting with mom and Shaylie

I toot!  I float!  I am a little boat!

Play time:

The yoga mat/tupperware combo was popular
Splashy!
A beer bottle in the baby pool was hours of fun
Happy guy

Putting on hats:
Howdy Ma'am
Too many hats!

And family time:
Dad time on the deck
Aunt Edie (Emma to you!) time with the git-box
Morning cuddle with mom

More bonding with Aunt Edie

Porch time in between ping-pong tourneys

Carter and Uncle Kyle found something in common

Dundon 4G
Special thanks to Laura and Emma for babysitting for us while Brian and I went off to Ottawa for a night to celebrate our 10th.

Date Night!

What a great gift!  Everybody was so great with Carter, so Brian and I got some additional R & R at the river - stand up paddleboarding, windsurfing, we even got in a few runs!

Carter has started to be a little scared of leaving us - he'll fuss if we are nearby, but he seems to calm down if he can't see us.   He had a little cold while we were there, but didn't seem to be deterred from having fun.  No major developmental milestones - we are waiting for him to try crawling, but he doesn't seem to be too interested.  Nine month checkup coming up in a few weeks!

Summer vacation part 2 to follow.

Pat-a-cake, pat-a-cake, baker's man...

Mimi had to work the past two days, so Carter and I had a weekend together.  We did all sorts of guy things like working in the garden and making tacos.  (Carter, by the way, likes the filling for our chicken tacos although we haven't tried the tortillas yet.)  We were so busy that we mostly forgot to take pictures, but after making our uber-manly lattice top peach pie, we did remember to record Carter's first pie making experience.

Although Carter did in fact help, notice the pie is out of his ever widening reach.  He's getting to be a grabby little guy.

Next weekend... The River!
