Pool Party!

It has been hot around here and we've been spending a lot of time in the pool.  Carter started swimming lessons last month and had a bit of a rocky start.  He was nervous in the water and wanted nothing to do with blowing bubbles, let alone going under.  In the last couple of weeks we've had a total transformation.  He's a fish these days, or as he would put it, "I'm just Carter shark. A friendly shark."

We got him a PFD/swimmies combo and once he got used to it, ("the arms are too tight!") he got a lot more comfortable in the water.  Now he paddles and kicks himself all over the pool, and he loves to race.  "I'm going to beat you!"

We've had a great time swimming with friends like Aunt Sue.

Not to mention Uncle Pontus and Saga.

Did I mention that Marni is here?  She is, and she's been helping keep us sane.  (Having an extra set of hands in that coming-home-from-work time is so key!) Carter loves it of course and they can occasionally be found immersed in their reading devices of choice...

Overall he's a pretty happy guy these days.  He's gotten over having a new little sister and often he's downright helpful.

Now, speaking of happy...Tamsin has been cheerful as well.  She's changing all the time.  We think she is a little more vocal than Carter was at this age.  She coos and ahs and laughs.  She's got a very expressive little face and lets us know quickly if something isn't quite to her liking.  We've managed to get her on something resembling a schedule with mostly solid morning and afternoon naps and a solid 8:30 to 6:30 overnight schedule.  Gotta love a good night's sleep.

Summer Days

I love it when Carter wants to play "nap"...

Lunchtime: kohlrabi + bean dip. Yum.

Happy post-bottle Tamsin

Carter and I rocked the coffee shop during some morning errands.

Fresh out of the pool... Carter-Fish.

Crazy Season

Ok ok, we know that we haven't been putting up many pictures these days, but it has been crazy town around here.  Lots of trips, lots of projects, not a lot of picture taking, sadly.  Here's a few from the last month or so.

The Thomas' visited.  Uncle J and Carter were connected at the hip.

Tamsin has moved from smirking to full on smiling.
Gram showing Tam the finer points of napping.

Carter getting a little shut eye on the road.  He's a trooper in the car.

Tam showing her smiles.

Carter waiting to try his first sparkler.

Tamsin partying on the play mat.

Memorial Day Road Trip

We ventured up to New York for a very long Memorial Day weekend.  We stopped off in Syracuse so that we could do a little work on our new house and then spent the weekend at the River.

Carter wasn't quite sure what rhubarb was for, but he sure liked picking it.

Tamsin tried out many of her new smiles on Aunt Jenn...

and some other faces as well...

Grammy was the baby holder extraordinaire.

Four generation happy hour!

Carter spent hours making laps of the cottage...

and playing in the boats...

and watching projects from the dock.

Thanks to Gram for taking so many great pictures!
In other news, Carter asked to hold Tamsin for the first time tonight.  So after dinner, we sat him down on the couch, handed him the baby and smiles all around:
